Ekofilm 2021

EKOFILM, a festival of environmental documentaries, starts tomorrow on 20 October 2021

Starting tomorrow, Brno will become the epicentre of environmental documentaries for four days. A delegation of filmmakers will be present at the screening of ten competing films at the 47th EKOFILM International Film Festival with an environmental theme. Filip Remunda, Joep van Dijk from the Netherlands and Jakub Šipoš from Slovakia are among personalities visiting the festival. The meeting with the filmmakers will be accompanied by a screening of two of the four non-competing films.

The main theme of the accompanying programme of EKOFILM is green architecture. The whole festival will start on Wednesday 20 October at 16:00 with an introductory talk Green Architecture: a place for life in the 21st century, followed by the opening ceremony at 18:30 on náměstí Svobody (Svoboda Square) with an opening concert by the band Brass Avenue. The audience can look forward to film screenings on Thursday and Friday, 21 and 22 October, along with lectures, discussions and workshops. Saturday is dedicated to Family Day and screenings of the winning films at the Scala University Cinema.

There will be a separate debate on green architecture in Brno with representatives of the partner festival Open House Brno and representatives of the Fandament studio. It will be moderated by Adéla Elbel on Friday 22 October 2021 at 16:30 in the Chill out zone of Scala. On Saturday, those interested can also go on experiential excursions to DEPO Business Parking and DADA Distrikt, whose architects used the principles of green architecture in their reconstruction.

Jord den Hollander, one of the international jury members, will also give a separate lecture with a screening of his film The Green Cathedral. Those interested can look forward to a talk about the unexpectedly close relationship between the environment, architecture and us on Thursday, 21 October 2021 at 18:00 in the Scala Chill Out Zone. Interpretation is provided.
