War is an ox: the destruction of nature during war conflicts
This talk will provide a glimpse into the dark environmental consequences of armed conflict. We will focus on how the destruction of infrastructure, chemical pollution and the displacement of people from their homes affect ecosystems and biodiversity. We will also look at how current international relations directly trigger armed conflicts. The discussion will outline possible steps and strategies to mitigate these impacts and how international cooperation and law can contribute to environmental protection even during war.
